Psych Rock from Sao Tome das Letras, Minas Gerais, Brasil.
TMODM: What had the strongest influence on The Golden Key To The Kingdom Of No Return?
White Canyon & The 5th Dimension: This disc is the result of experimental sessions we do to compose new material. Usually things start to take shape like this, with instrumental passages until melodies emerge and take the form of a song.
Some of these tracks emerged while we were making Gardeners of the Earth and were put aside for a while. Then the idea came up to gather this material and turn it into an instrumental disc.
Smote’s Drommon disc was something that inspired this work, something that gave us a direction to take. The band Earth was also a strong influence, we wanted to do something heavy and mysterious like their records.
TMODM: What kind of gear do you use?
White Canyon & The 5th Dimension: We used our home studio as usual to do this.
Some electronic drums, an old yamaha dx7, Brazilian 70s amps and some regional percussive instruments.
We recorded digitally on our computer.
TMODM: What’s next for you?
White Canyon & The 5th Dimension: At the moment we’re finalising the recording of an album for next year. We’ve been working on it since the end of Gardeners and it’s slowly taking shape. We don’t have a date yet, but I think we’ll have it out in the first half of the year.

White Shape

#Experimental #Heavy #IndieRock #Psych #Psychedelic

A reverb soaked experimental heavy psychedelic rock band from Rockford, Illinois. Always there. Always thinking about you. Follow us. We are your friends.
TMODM: What had the strongest influence on Through The Lupine?
White Shape: Well, this was mostly written during Covid lockdown after members parted ways and left Alyssa and I to write on our own. So this is the first album that the only influences in the writing process was just her and myself. The music comes from what we were feeling at the time. Believe or not I found a lot of peace and comfort in the lockdown times because I got to spend a lot of time with my family. So that might be why the music might sound the way it does on this record.
TMODM: What record changed your life?
White Shape: Well me personally, the first time I was ever moved emotionally by music was my parents U2 records back in the 80s. It really shaped the way I approached music as far as chord progressions and trying to create moving music. Then later in life I saw the black angels live in 2007 and it made me want to make music that put people in a psychedelic frame of mind.
TMODM: What’s next for you?
White Shape: Probably just continue to write. I’ve already started writing the next one plus a score for a soundtrack that I can’t really talk about yet.
We are going to be jamming again with former WS members in hopes of bringing back our live shows, which is the way you are really supposed to experience our music.

Sunset Images

#Punk #Drone #Experimental #Noise #Noise #Psych #PsychedelicRock

Sunset Images are from Mexico City. Sunset Images’ fervent guitar and bass performance and tortured vocals have established a core around which chaos is order and volume is paramount, and the final results stand in sharp contrast to the laid back expectations conjured by the band’s moniker.
TMODM: What had the strongest influence on NADA 虚 / CERO 0 / INFINITO ∞?
Sunset Images: The biggest influence on this EP, would be the feelings of loneliness, hopelessness and rage against the racism, the silence to people’s voices and the actual feeling that there’s nothing left to fight for in this world…

The Noir Dalis

#GarageRock #Post-punk #Psychedelic #Shoegaze

The Noir Dalis is an innovative duo that seamlessly blends the raw energy of garage rock with the haunting atmospheres of post-punk, shoegaze, and psych-rock—comprised of drummer and co-songwriter Linda Ventura and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Carlos Bojorquez. The Noir Dalis embodies a unique sonic landscape that captivates listeners with its intricate melodies and immersive soundscapes. Based in Los Angeles
TMODM: What had the strongest influence on Rise?
Noir Dalis: The music that ended up on the album all came from a place of taking risks and understanding that we were doing this for the first time. One of the two influences was the location of the Joshua Tree.
The feeling of isolation and wonder was a surreal and great experience. The second influence would be all the post-punk and shoegaze records I listened to months before completing the demos.
The producer for this album Jared Artaud (from the Vacant Lots) had a profound impact. He pushed me and the band to the next level as musicians and artists. A stand-up guy all around.
TMODM: What record(s) changed your lives?
Noir Dalis: In no particular order the following.
These are on constant rotation. Every time I listen to the record I notice something new. I love it.
* Sonic Bloom by The Night Beats
* Screamadelica by Primal Scream
* Bo Diddley by Bo Diddley
* Directions to See a Ghost by The Black Angels
* Good Time by DAIISTAR
* Automatic by Jesus and the Mary Chain
* BRMC by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
TMODM: What’s next for you?
Noir Dalis: The band is getting ready to release our debut record as an LP record. After the success of our 7 inch. The sales have provided enough for us to invest on having our first pressing.
Our next dates are the following.
Saturday, October 28th for The 12th annual PSYCHEDELIC SPACE CAMP. Going to be a lot of fun. (At the Palms in 29 Palms, CA)
Sunday, November 3rd joining from Chicago, blues/psych group DAISYCHAIN is bringing their midwest ethereality for an evening of shredders featuring local legends SUN COLONY and us. THE NOIR DALIS. (At Permenant Records Roadhouse Los Angeles, CA)

Maarlenht

#Experimental #GarageRock #Lo-Fi #Neopsychedelia #PsychedelicRock

Maarlenht is based in Chuvashia Republic, Russia
TMODM: What had the strongest influence on maarlenht?
Maarlenht: I am too shy and lazy to start a band, so Idea of doing all by myself is really what made this EP. So i guess any one-man band is an influence to me. Shout out to Tim Presley!
TMODM: What record changed your life?
Maarlenht: Probably “Jerry” by “Padla Bear Outfit”. For me, this album is a definition of style, musically and lyrically.
TMODM: What’s next for you?
Maarlenht: Eastern Europe is a strange place to make plans, but i’ll try to release LP this year.

LUM

#Fuzz #Heavy #PsychedelicRock #StonerRock

LUM was born as a solo project in 2022 from the idea of Tomaso Brunello, musician, singer and songwriter. The music of the project is inspired to psychedelic sounds of desert rock, while the songs lyrics recall the imagery of heavy metal music
TMODM: What had the strongest influence on From a cold valley?
LUM: My first EP “From a cold valley” is actually inspired by a real mountain valley, rich in legends and folklore, located near to where I live, in northern Italy. The songs’ lyrics are inspired by those of the most classic heavy metal, to which I added a touch of psychedelia typical of desert rock.
With regards to the music of this EP, I am passionate about both metal and rock, so I found my spot between these two genres, trying to create something original.
TMODM: What record(s) changed your lives?
LUM: The best inspiring album is “Songs for the deaf” by Queens of the Stone Age, that includes epic hits such as “No One Knows”, “Go with the Flow” and “First it Giveth”
I also really appreciate many works of other bands such as Black Sabbath, Mastodon, Red Fang, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, Mars Red Sky, Slomosa among the others.
TMODM: What’s next for you?
LUM: I’m currently finishing a second EP which should be released in 2025. It will contain 6 songs recorded and mixed by Trulletto Records, with whom I have already worked on “From a Cold Valley”

Berlin-based band that packs a punch in a madman’s blend of krautrock, garage rock and psych.
TMODM: What has had the strongest influence on your music?
Sacred Buzz: We really love energy, fuzz, drone, and intricate patterns. I guess it shows in our music. As far as influences, I think there are too many to name but we always gravitated towards psych garage from the 60s to the modern day.
TMODM: What record(s) changed your lives?
Sacred Buzz: The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators (1966). The combination of all parts on this album just resonates deeply within me.

Illusions Of An Orange

#OrangeRock #PsychedelicRock #SpaceRock

Illusions Of An Orange are from Vienna, Austria. As three humble Orangonauts, we are but travelers, channeling the cosmic forces of the Orangeverse through sound and spirit. Hereby everything happens spontaneously and improvised with its direction coming from the cosmic forces that ripple through every being.
TMODM: What had the strongest influence on Threads of Eternal Creation?
Illusions Of An Orange: The Astral Weaver guided us. Threads dipped in the blood of fallen gods wove the fabric of this album, capturing moments of creation and transformation.
It’s a reflection of the unspoken forces that ripple through spacetime, and we were merely the instruments through which those forces spoke.
TMODM: What record changed your life?
Illusions Of An Orange: The sounds that shape us come from beyond time. The echoes of ancient cosmic vibrations, the hum of distant stars,
and the forgotten melodies of worlds that came before. But if we must choose, it is the timeless records that explore new dimensions,
break boundaries, and dive into the unknown that have left their mark.
From King Crimson to the endless jams of Can, we are guided by the same spirit of exploration.
TMODM: What’s next for you?
Illusions Of An Orange: The Nexus is approaching on November 12th, as we’ll share our final journey of 2024. After that, we are preparing to split our journey into multiple paths,
each exploring new realms of the Orangeverse. Whether through instrumental sessions, live recordings, collaborations or retellings of forgotten legends,
we will continue our search for Zestron, the sentient orange, our guiding light, and the heart of all creation.

[note: in the podcast I said I thought Illusions Of An Orange were going their separate ways, but the Orangonauts clarified things: “We are simply splitting our Jams and Gettogethers into different events focusing on different things. Some will be only intrumental, others will be collaborations with different artists to invite other musicians and instruments, some will be live sessions in different locations and studios and some will be more lyrics and vocal driven. And everything will get a new look.
We’re not stopping any time soon, but quite the contrary.
Hopefully there will be lots of new jams and releases in the coming year to look forward to.”]
