Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973, is one of those albums that audiophiles love, and it has been reissued a number of times on LP and CD to achieve the highest fidelity possible. Dark Side of the Moon was one of the early titles remastered by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs for LP release in 1979 and it was reissued as an Ultradisc Gold CD in 1988. It was remastered for the 20th Anniversary Edition
of Dark Side of the Moon, and it was remastered again 10 years later in 5.1 channel surround sound SACD format for the 30th Anniversary Edition
of the album. The 30th anniversary edition of Dark Side of the Moon was also issued on "180 Gram Audiophile Virgin Vinyl
," a release coveted by analog audiophiles.
Despite all this attention to audio fidelity of this classic rock icon, a video game programmer decided to go in the opposite direction and do Dark Side of the Moon in 8-bit audio (standard CDs use 16 bits). That these tracks sound like classic Nintendo video games should come as no surprise, as they were "arranged for [the Nintendo Entertainment System] by Brad Smith. Created using Famitracker, sound rendered with NSFplug." or so explains Sakanakao's Channel on YouTube, where all of the clips are available. I'll just go with "Money" for this post.
You can also download all of these videos from Smith's website Moon8. If you'd like more technical information about how these tracks were made, check out this interview in The Feed.
